The pianist Vestard Shimkus Latvia acts as the winner Midnight concerts of the 55th International Music Competition Maria Canals Barcelona, ​​where our festival has a close relationship.

Vestard Shimkus has been awarded multiple international competitions in his promising career. He began playing piano at five and made his first studies at the Emilio Darzins Music College in Riga, Latvia, and later at the University of Southern California, School of Music Reina Sofia in Madrid the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, Germany.

He has performed in concerts with the BBC Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Czech Philharmonic, Philharmonie Nordwestdeutsche and other orchestras.

He has also given recitals at the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Tokyo Opera City, the O. Messiaen Salle Radio France (Paris), the Berwald Hall (Stockholm), Konserthuset (Stockholm) and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, among others.

He has participated in multiple festivals and has collaborated with conductors as Lawrence Foster, Andris Nelsons, Vassily Sinaisky and Salvador Brotons.
